(Cjt) Associate Professor Aniruddh (Ani) Deshpande is a clinician researcher who holds an appointment in Paediatric Urology and Surgery at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Sydney.
Aniruddh is passionate about improving treatment outcomes and treatment experience for children and carers with urinary tract problems, especially complex and refractory bladder problems. He has pioneered ambulatory and non-invasive urodynamics in New South Wales and supports the multidisciplinary Urinary Incontinence Service at the Westmead Children’s Hospital. Aniruddh has been awarded a PhD from the University of Sydney on Disorders of the Urinary Bladder in Children and has subsequently developed a strong clinical and research track record in the area of paediatric urology and urinary incontinence in children.
Aniruddh also has a keen interest in understanding and improving the care of recurrent UTI’s in children and is currently funded by and NHMRC grant which looks at identifying immunological triggers and therapeutic opportunities to deal with this common problem. He collaborates extensively in clinical and research space with colleagues around Australia. He currently supervises 3 PhD students for research into his areas of interest and is a contact Editor for the Cochrane Collaboration (incontinence).
As a clinician, Aniruddh believes strongly in establishing rapport, setting rational goals of treatment and working jointly with parents and carers as an empathetic team to achieve the best outcomes for the child. He looks forward to being a member of the wonderful PAW team.
